  • You know those DRLs that a lot of new cars have?

What happens to them when the main headlights are switched on, do they switch off or stay on with the headlights?

I've never seen one of those cars driving at night so I've no idea.

    Ours stay on.

They can be configured to be off or on in various modes via software, but the menu system is impenetrable so I haven't bothered.

They stay on (on the BMWS Porsches and Aldis at least).
      More Lift.
      More Tyres.
      More Engine.

My driving school hack is a Corsa 1.4 SXI. The DRL's go off when the lights are switched on.

I believe to be fully legal with new regs. they should either go off when dipped beam is on, or reduce the output to approx 50% so as not to blind other road users at night.

Most of the proprietary 3rd party kits come with an electronic control board for this, although the cheap kits on eBay just stay on.

I thought that might be the case, some of those lights are blinding during the day!

I've ordered a pair of round, 9 LED DRLs for the black 3rd gen, as the cloaking device seems to be permanently activated judging by school-run-mums that can't see it coming towards them!
I think I'll wire them so they dim when the main lights are on.

                Thanks y'all.

Yeah, not a massive amount dimmer than the dipped beams, were definitley bright, took all of my focus away. One of the cars had 6 leds wich were super bright then had dimmer strips coming off them and running up the bumper a bit.

Was a 12 plate car, citroen I think.

Ah yes, the DS3? Those lights are extremely bright in daylight!

I could show how to wire then so they come on with the engine and dim when the headlights are switched on.
