I seen those and there are others available (Kelford cams), but it's not something I've considered especially for a Surf because they, as you rightly say, push the 'power band' higher up. OK if you were building a street racer and were stripping the engine down to the pistons, but not for 4x4.
Those cams are re-grinds anyway, so you'll either need thicker shims under the buckets or longer valves as well. They only give an extra around 30bhp over stock.


There's no room for a turbo in the Surf's engine compartment (unless the battery is relocated and the inner wing/s are chopped out as the exhaust manifolds would have to be reversed), so supercharging, together with custom headers and Supra injectors is the easiest way to get a good hike in horse power, at least 50bhp more.
I've just bought a spare inlet manifold that I plan to cut up and TIG weld my own adapter plate to fit either a M90 or M112 supercharger. As you know, superchargers start producing power direct from idle, which will be a bonus off-road and at the traffic light Grand Prix.

For a quicker/easier (slight) power gain is to fit an after market, mappable/tuneable ECU.
Standard Lexus ECU's limit the 1uz's maximum power output. They were developed for executive cruisers remember.

Cut outs... as if they aren't loud enough! Now that would scare the pedestrians... venting straight out past the front wheel onto the pavement :hehe:

Reversing the coin Vince, what's the best way to keep a low rumble, but lose the F1 noise at high RPM? Would 2 pipes with big boxes on help? (Also a little crackle and pop wouldn't go amiss )

ETA I WOT it the other day past my petrol head neighbour, (who was out walking on national speed limit road I might add) and he actually thought there was a superbike BEHIND me, because of the noise!

You need a two into one noise absorbing/cancelling silencer with either fibreglass packing or a chambered type, in place of the small black box
but keep the larger straight through box to retain the deep rumble.

Mine's not loud either if I drive like Miss Daisy's Driver, but that get's boring, then I open it up and it goes from being OK to OMG then WTF...
