  • New Surf owner checking in.

Hi all, just got a 94 3ltr Surf, initially as a winter runabout/towing motor,(can't do snow in a Vectra again). Had a swb y61 Patrol for 10 years and, given it's age the surf compares well, if a little underpowered. Everything works except the rear screen demister, and the only things that need sorting are a rear wheel bearing and an exhaust blow,(manifold I think).
Got Centerlines with recent tyres as well!

    Onward and upward!

    Dave.

welcome to the forum, Dave. If you become hooked on Surfs, as many do, try a 3.0 next time they're far more powerful. ( Especially with a 3" straight through stainless exhaust ((Just done one in mine)).....

MWS, it is a 3ltr but the Patrol was 160bhp and being short wheel base was probably lighter. Gen 2 are non ecu so can't chip it but as I'm unfortunately at the age where I no longer have to go everywhere at warp factor 6 I will probably manage!

There's definitely an ECU in a 2nd gen. I've been inside it to modify gear changes.

Sorry, Dave. I didn't read your post carefuly enough....; And yes, you can chip them. Thats not the only way of extracting a bit more power, though. Use the search facility. There's lots of useful info, going back over years worth of posts.....

Interesting! I thought there would have been, (haven't really had a chance to look into it yet, only got it saturday) but made some enquiries about chipping and was told it was non ecu and was too old!

I could understand that if they were talking about me!!!

I will investigate further but would be interested if anyone has any suggestions.

                      Dave.
