  • front & rear heaters cold

    surf 2.4 1991
replaced a split heater pipe last week, so thought best buy new coolant & drained & refilled today.
now heating cold.was never great before warm but not hot. rear was hot.
    top hose & radiator hot.
bottom hose & heater pipes in / out of control valve on bulkhead are all cold.

have not inspected thermostat (if even fitted)
    will buy genuine stat tomorrow.

if thermostat is faulty (or missing) would this cause loss of heating & cold hoses.
although heater control valve has cable fitted none of the controls on dash move the valve ? I can manually operate the lever after removing cable.

sorry I know it been covered before, but the more I read the more confused I get

    thanks Robert

If the heaters worked before the split hose was replaced, but dont work now,
its most propably an airlock in the matrix, search burping the cooling system.

If the rear heater was hot and the front only warm, sounds like you might
have a partial blockage in the matrix, try reverse flushing with a hose pipe.
    Still on a mission.

      Airlock

I too had same problem when I did my LJ70 coolant change. Drive up a steep long incline to the point the thermorstat needs to open and the block should clear.

Are you sure the cable is properly clipped in at the heater valve?

the eye on the cable end is located on a pin on valve lever.

the only heater slide control in car (hot/cold) operates a flap on heater box at n/s footwell.

all other heater controls are push button & are working

waiting for new thermostat to arrive

            thanks for replies

That is strange all the links worked ok for me.

When you move the heater slide in the car does the valve actuator arm move?

TBH you probably just have a massive air lock in the system try the links again

Manually move the valve and try your heaters ?
