I drove my new gen 3, 3.0L TD Surf from (near to) Bournemouth to (near to) Aberdeen. 99% of the journey is motorway and the total distance is round about 600miles. I cruised at 80mph all the way and got 26mpg on the journey. Is that about right? What could I expect round town?

That sounds promising. Thanks Steve. To be honest, I'm not too fussed about the fuel consumption as it's not our daily runner. It ticks all the boxes I need it to tick and I love the car. Only problem now is that the wife drove it the other day - she loves it so I might not get to drive it as much and end up getting left with the other car. Couldn't afford fuel for two Surfs in the family, though!

Funny you should say that, I let lisa(wife) drive it the other night and her driving is not great lol, but was shocked that she drove it better than her car lol. First time she has driven a automatic vehicle. Wouldn't trust her parking itOriginally posted by TeaMonsta View PostThat sounds promising. Thanks Steve. Why?Originally posted by stevehulluk View PostWouldn't trust her parking it
You can see all 4 corners from the drivers seat, and visibility is pretty good compared to a lot of modern cars with pillars the size of pillows...
As an example, our surf is easier to park, reverse out of spaces, driveways etc than our astra estate. Both are autos."B.A." Baracus: "Talk to me, talk sense so I can talk back. Not all this jibberjabber like breaking the peace and all that."

Probably true. My dad used to have a big 7 series Volvo estate and that was easy to park because it had a flat rear end and a really tight turning circle. Modern cars are a nightmare. I still park my Mk 5 Golf two feet away from the back of a parking space, convinced I'm right up tight.

Very good, manuals are more economical than the autos.
If you kept it below 70mph you would have achieved nearer 30 mpg.
p.s. I hope your insurance company or traffic police don't see this thread.
