I've owned 4x 2nd Gen Surfs, 2x 3rd Gen Surfs and 3x Pajeros. I own neither a Surf or a Pajero at present so I'm in no way biased.
Head issues are much the same between the 3.0 Yota and 2.8 Mitsi engines. In fact they're pretty much the same across all 1990s Jap diesels except the 2.4 in the LN130 which is just an underpowered head-popper. In my experience, the Pajero is a better built truck and much more versatile, its miles better in the mud too, but I like the Surf styling much better.
Instead of just saying "Pajeros are sh*te" , give us a bit of justification for saying it. What is your experience of them and why are they "sh*te"?
In all honesty, I think they're both dated and not particularly good, I'd have a 3rd Gen Surf over any of them but if I had to choose between the 2, I'd have a 2nd Gen 3.0 Surf (purely for the styling).En Ferus Hostis. Be your own man. Follow nobody.

And surely you should back up your statement with fact ,however I do not need to justify to you why I choose to drive what I drive.Eat.Sleep.Surf.Repeat.

I've borrowed a 2.8 SWB Paj in the past, I thought it wasn't as good on the road as my 3rd Gen surf as the gearing appeared to be good a bit lower. I thought the whole thing was a good bit more agricultural than the Surf.
Anyone had a mitsubishi challenger? Those really look like rebadged surf's!

Like the Hilux and the Surfs the Shogun Sport is taken from the L200https://www.facebook.com/groups/henpals/

I'm not asking anybody to justify why they drive anything. 12 years of ownership experience of both has shaped my opinion. I'm not going to change that. In my opinion, in standard form, the Pajeros (except the 2.5) are in a different league from a 2nd gen Surf as off-roaders and load luggers and in my experience they are FAR more reliable.
The 3rd Gen Surf is a totally different story.En Ferus Hostis. Be your own man. Follow nobody.

This is just my opinion being a surf owner and a mitsi owner. The L200 is better on fuel compared to the Surfs and you get alot more for your money with a mitsi compared to Toyota's.
I would still have a surf any day even with known problems but the Mitsi's also suffer the dreaded head problems even on the newer trucks so its just a Jap thing.I wouldn't have a pajero even if it was given to me as they are (to me) ugly trucks
For what i paid for my L200 i would of had to pay alot more for the equivilent in Toyota but at the time i couldn't find the right Toyota for me and i started looking at the L200's
Hows things with you Ross all well i hopehttps://www.facebook.com/groups/henpals/
