  • Roughtrax...... Rough service?

Ok, so not my usual pleasant experience with Roughtrax.

Just bought a new radiator as mine decided to split and went, as usual, to Roughtrax.
Ordered the non-genuine replacement listed as the "best aftermarket radiator we have seen to date", which WAS listed with new type plastic top and bottom tanks, as Toyota fit to the later models.

Just recieved my new rad, and have to say, not all that impressed....
Top and bottom tanks made from copper (like the old one), and some bright spark has decided to shrink wrap it while the paint is still wet, making the paint come off as you unwrap it!

Now I've just spoken to them there and been told that there's nothing they can do about it.......They have removed the part about the plastic tanks from their website now, but say that all their current stock has the same problem with the shrink wrapping.
Unperturbed, I asked if I could have some kind of discount, as I'm now going to have to spend my time repainting it, and was told they CAN'T offer any discount as they only have another five and they are in high demand. However, I can always return it for a replacement......which he just told me will have the same problem, only slightly less so!

I think it's more a case of WON'T than CAN'T as they know they'll sell them.

I'm not expecting any kind of solution from this, just thought I'd share this experience with you all......just in case any of you have just ordered a new rad!!

Just double check the mounts are in the right place.
One guy bought a rad fro his 80 series Land Cruiser --- wouldn't even fit close.

    Also from RT.

What's the big deal with that?
Buy a can of black Smoothrite, spray the rad, and it'll be dry enough to handle by the time you've removed everything ready to fit it.
Use the rest of the spray can to make anything else on the truck to smarten it up a bit.

Please don't say that! My car's been off the road for two weeks already waiting for them to come back into stock!

It seems you have the same attitude as them.
            My point is :
            a) The radiator wasn't the one advertised (false advertising)
            b) That's another £8 I have to spend at a time when I'm trying to save every penny I can. AND not to mention the WHY THE HELL SHOULD I HAVE TO?!

If you're not happy about it, send it back and get a refund; don't come on here and bitch about it.

Thanks for letting us know. I for one have spent probably north of 2k with RT over the years and never had a problem, however, if the Hilux communities loyalty is now taken for granted and your description is accurate it is a excellent heads up to us all to ask before we buy.

I would say however, Barry has been nothing but helpful to both myself and my brother, even replacing a cylinder head for my brother that failed after less than 80 miles.

No, he should have every right to come on here and bitch about it, it's not the same item as he wanted to order and it turns up damaged, it's not his job to have to repaint a new item. That's a shite service and a shite product however you look at it. No excuses.
I was about to order the same product, this post is informative and in no way is he bitching about it.

I'm with this guy, why should he have to repaint a brand new item, apart from the fact it aint as described, Webbo had the same problem, "best rad we've seen in years" unquote, lasted a year and then they say it's not a very good rad, we do a different one now!! sounds like their still selling the crap ones, anyway feedback good or bad is ok to post, might help some other poor sod from grief, name and shame i say,
personally i've had no problem with RT but then i aint bought a rad from them and definatly wont now, these shoddy things aint cheap, just cheap made!!

im with the op on this one
ive experienced the "so f@#king what" attitude of roughtrax in the past , i even had barry post on here saying i said something that i didnt . i just dont buy from them now . i order most of my parts from milner offroad or local motor factors.

if your not happy with the part you recieved them the best you can do is send it back for a refund. once you fit it your buggered and cant then turn round and say "actually im not happy now , id like a refund".
i can see what you mean about why should you have to paint it , but if you need to fit it , then like has been said it just needs a quick lick of paint and itll do the job .
