  • Not sure what to do........

    Hi again folks!
I currently have two surfs that need a bit of work…..one has a leaky fuel pump but is fine apart from that and the other is a big beastie that need some suspension components replaced and didn’t pass the emissions test (very badly failed) and don’t really have the time to work on them any more….now here is the question ……should I amalgamate them into one good truck via a garage or a couple of weeks off and spend quite a few quid or see if someone was interested in swapping them for a good runner? (don’t really have room to break themas you can see in the pics)

    Both 3l
35” on the blue one with 5” lift
    Stainless exhaust
    New starter

    31” on the black one
    3” lift

    Both new water pumps batteries
Both with bull bars and spots
New cv’s and brakes on the black one and on the blue
    Etc etc.

    Any ideas folks

Rob I would have suggested nick the I P from the lifted Truck but as you describe it Failed miserably n with suspension parts to-boot for MOT could cost more than having the I P looked at on ya other Truck .... is this ya Daily Driver ?
Timing & Costing/s could play a big part too n may depend on which Truck ya really wanna keep .... sacrificing one to keep another !!
n I'd definitely try some Injector cleaner/ATF n some Veg oil
        Good Luck

        11+ Years of Surfs .... n Faultless to a " T " is my Yota

Yup going to have to get rid of the blue one..... it will be in the for sale bit soon. Its the black one that is the daily driver and just needs to get sorted as soon as possible and that means taking it to the deisel guy and he says take it out £138 ..... service & replace gubbins 250 then 160 if the cold start bit is knacked.....soooooo...guess its just the way it has to be cant really take the chance to take the i p from the other truck then that gives way in 6 months or whenever. Starting to realise i cant do everything.......

Haha dont want to go there! only garage in the area that is also a denso specialist...... got quotes from the other local ones and they either wont touch it - or will charge 4/5 hours labour to take it out then send it off for.....wait for it ....intake of breath then the answer...dont know till it gets there so 138 take out and replace and 250 for all servicing of the pump test etc plus vat 465.40 and fingers crossed the rest is ok..... what a cra@p morning!

You could save yourself £400 by just buying a secondhand pump, fitting a new seal kit and then fitting it to the truck yourself.
Spend the money you would have wasted er, I mean spent on fixing the other truck so you'll get more money for it when you sell it.

Aye you are right & I hate parting with money to a garage …..problem is I have been thinking about this for a while but feasibility wise I live in Edinburgh and work in the Borders so don’t get home till about seven ish (no garage) and the missus really needs transport for the School runs as soon as possible…I did try at removing the pump as it looked relatively simple but cant seem to find all the housing bolts to remove it….###### hell sounding like a right wuss but it had me stumped!
