guys, my surf started to smoke quite badly a few weeks ago. Thought i'd do the EGR vacuum pipe mod. DOH! its already been done. So, doing a Sherlock Holmes, I worked through the theory of the EGR mod and reasoned that it works by ensuring you get the max O2 to the engine... so, what else can diminish O2 at the block?? er, air intake of course. so, visual inspection of the filter showed it was looking clean.... however on replacement with a sparkly new one it became quite obvious looking clean doesnt equal actually BEING clean...... as soon as i fired the truck up with the new air filter, it ran without smoke.YAY! no more black smoke. sometimes it really is the simple things we should address first, isnt it!

fuel - only do short local runs, so dont really keep note.
however, we just went Worcester - burnham on sea - wooky hole - burnham - 10 miles of pootling about - worcester on 2/3rds of a tank. feel free to work that out for me!
