  • Hub Explosion

I bought this manual locking hub from roughtrax sometime last year.
    Has anybody else experienced this?
i was doing some off roading on sunday and during climbing a rocky hill heard a massive bang, and lost traction.
    on inspection i found this

I rang roughtrax and they said they had never heard of this, but as ever with great customer service they kindly offered to send me a replacement.

Seems dryazabone in there, has it ever seen any grease?
Lack of maintenance was to blame methinks.

Yes. You don't have a locker, one wheel of the ground, too much go pedal, the wheel spins and when it hits the ground, something has to give. In this case it was the hub. Could have been a CV or diff, so revise your driving style.

I've only seen broken Aisin hubs on trucks with lockers, low gears and 35" plus tyres.

                  Good Effort, use less throttle.

I'm with the more maintenance theory. A bit of cleaning and a grease would help. But perhaps less go pedal would be good too. I've had Warns doing all sorts of crazy stuff in the mud and never seen anything like that.

Blimey! I assumed that all the grease and debris had been cleaned out, so that the damage could be seen more clearly in the photos.........

                          Possibly, but I doubt it.

Tony will be along in a minute to confirm either way.
