  • More gearbox/torque convertor stuff

    Hi again.

I'm still trying to get problems sorted. I got a torque convertor a while back, but when we finally got around to fitting it we got about a pint of ATF down on top of us from the sponge-like thing at the front of the gearbox. There is a small drip of ATF coming from somewhere around the top of the gearbox. At that point we stopped to get more info.

Are there any seals or similar there which would need replacing at the same time? We looked in Haynes, but there's no diagram in there to show this.

    Thanks.

    David.

There is a seal round the converter pump spigot, I'm sure Roughtrax have got them for me in past, or might have to go to Toyota.

There is a breather on top of the gearbox, right at the front, it should have a short bit of pipe and a cap on the end, and it clips to the kickdown cable, if the box is over filled or you have pressure problems oil will come out of here,

Thanks for that. It makes perfect sense, as it was wasn't leaving oil on the driveway, but was slightly overfilled.

Dara - I'll be there on Sunday. Do you want me to bring that towbar for you to look at?

I got an "A/T Oil Temp" warning light today, which explains the burning gassy smell I've been getting recently, which I assumed was spilt oil burning off.

Is there an atf cooler on the surf and, if there is, where is it?

ATF cooler is located inside the engine rad, a sealed unit inside the lower half.

              this thread shows it

@ Kerrsurf ~ thanks for that.

@ Dara ~ I'm not sure if I can get the surf there without overheating. It's a pity, as the wheels were delivered yesterday and I'm picking up the tyres for offroading in Flowerhill.

If the surf won't make it, I'll either be in Mrs Feys Freelander (which is well used to being covered in muck), or my fathers Superb (which I wouldn't be allowed drive over a cowpat in, but is a great, comfortable car).

Either way I should be up there around 1.

                      Thanks for that.

I have a spare helmet if you want me to bring it.

One of the lads from Bradleys might bring out a fresh landy; I'm still trying to convince him fully.
