Just received my new thermo switch and electric fan for the truck,my experiment in a cooler running engine has failed so I am going back to the standard 92 97 thermo switch
I got sick of SHMBO saying "that fan is running again"
Plus got a 10" electric fan to replace the original so before it becomes a permanent fixture will be carrying out some airflow tests with it in situ;will post the results if any are interested

Sure am interested. I am yet to fit mine and was going to just fit a manual switch in the cab. Remind me what size fan you tried and have you left the viscous fan in?

However I will have to wait for the rain to stop, it ever stops effing raining that is.

It is a 12 volt 80 watt item.

As far as I can work out the existing fan only pulls 3 Amps so I am expecting the new one to move a fair bit more air.

I will set up a fan box to test the new one off the truck before I fit it,and will then be able to compare run amps and air moved.
