  • Selling my car to a foreign buyer....

    Hi all

My 4runner is currently for sale on a couple of sites, and I received a message from someone in Germany. Here's the message:

"I´m very interested in your car.
I´m from Germany and I planned a trip to Great Britain at the end of July and would like to take a look at your car if it is possible.
Would you sell the car to me if there´s no other interested person in the meantime.
After the transaction I would like to drive back to Germany with this car. Do you think the car will hold out during this distance?

    Regards"

I've looked at his profile and he has 26 feedback. All 100%. Im just wondering should I be cautious of foreign buyers? As you hear about these scams and whatnot. My only suspicion is that the phone number supllied on his eBay profile page is 1 digit short.

Also, what is the process of selling to a foreign buyer? Does the v5 get filled out differently? And should I take cash, or bank transfer?

    Cheers for the help!

Get yourself A note checker to be on the safe side, they are cheap enough.

Hi, on the second page of the V5 is the permanent export slip, fill this in with his details, and post it to DVLA registered post. Thats all you need to do.
Get a photocopy of his ID, in case he is dodgy, but not essential as you have complied with the relevant law.
Cash only, make sure the spondoleys are real ones. Hope this helps.

I recommend do not sell your car in front of your house,he doesn't need to know where you live;choose a public place and make sure you're not alone when you do the transaction.Good luck!

I wouldn't buy a car from someone in a services halfway up the M6 anyway.

If in doubt check the V5 or German equivalent, it's probably on there.
