Ford Falcon, 1991 EB "wagon" "S" 3.9 straight 6 multipoint fuel injection.
When we first got it it was a little on the slow side but it's not bad for a cruiser. Owning a vehicle is much much easier over here. Providing you pay for "rego" (basically a MOT type certificate that you never have to get officially inspected unless it lapses) you can drive on the roads. No insurance is necessary because the rego includes the basic cover.
We found that the vehicle needed some TLC and we noted to complete a service at some point. I noticed that the throttle cable seemed too long by about 10 or 20mm. So I managed to make something up to take up the slack. Shortly after gaining quite a noticeable amount of power we lost it all and more. We crudely timed a 0-60mph time and found we run out of road after almost a minute before reaching 60mph. So, was pretty slow. The reason was the throttle cable had stretched even more. We also needed HT leads as they broke down at 3000rpm. So leads and plugs were changed so we could go over 3000rpm as well as the throttle cable.
Around the same time, the vehicle began over fueling. To the point that we now look exactly like Del and rodney (I'm Rodney). It used to be really good on fuel but now it drinks. I havent been able to work out what MPG we are getting because the odometer is broke. It doesn't backfire yet as it has a catalyst but hope to have it fixed well before then. It actually seems to be running better recently - i.e. it doesnt smoke any more but economy is still pretty crap.
The exhaust back box fell off too ages ago.
Engine RPM should be 600-ish at tickover. Actual RPM is more like 200 and sometimes doesn't register.
Just thought I'd share our comical experiences.
