  • question about the towing points

right after removing my a bar and hooks to remove the front tow bar i noticed that the 'eyes' where you usually attach shackles are only bolted on, which got me questioning,

i know the hooks are no good as they break off, but are these recovery points that are next to the hooks really strong enough to attach shackles and be towed free?

TBH they dont look up to the job.
well, that was a bad idea!

The fact they're bolted isn't the issue, so long as the bolts are both there and properly torqued; they're fine.

The issue is with the hooks themselves. Not all hooks are equal, I have 2 rated recovery hooks on the front of mine. They can be found on eBay and in LR shops, the hole centres are standard, the bolts aren't.
Do you know that, with a 50 character limit, it's

would it be a good idea to get stronger bolts for them then?

Are those 'eyes' not intended as tie down points (like the rear ones) ?
