  • Alternator question

    just wondering, is it possible to increase the output or replace the alternator for a higher output unit?,
    asking as when i am running with lights, blower, fans etc it not keeping up with the power being used,
    thats headlights not all the spots as well, but there are 5 fans when their all on

      There's a few companies about that will re-wind your alternator to a higher spec, although I've read of people not being happy with the results (car audio people upgrade their alts to power their big amps etc.)

      The problem with the 2.4 alt is the vacuum pump being on it. Gives you less options.

      Used to be a place in North Weald, Essex that upgraded them.

      Might be this company.

          Some of the car audio people run twin alternators. Plenty of space for a big one if you've taken the aircon out. Maybe disconnect the alt part of the original one and just use it for the vacuum pump and use a big alternator from the breakers yard. Just means fabbing up brackets and maybe a pulley.

            Excellent idea!! i'll look into doing that, i removed the aircon ages ago

            i was thinking of four of those dynamo's you used to stick on push bikes, one on each wheel
