  • Fated to fail

Ok it is MOT time .

Now I am not normally superstitious however,
this morning I dropped my wrapper fresh HTC in the sink, yep it did not float.
In the truck on route to fill up with diesel a black cat crossed in front of me as I pulled off my drive.
Got to the petrol station filled up with diesel and found my wallet had not made the journey with me.
Picked up wallet from table and back to the petrol station, going back to the petrol station to pay for the diesel I am waiting to turn right as a funeral courtege drives past.

Finally get to the MOT station and yep she failed.

Why were you holding a phone over the sink...
You didn't run the cat over...
At least you put deisel in...
You forgot your wallet cos you were too busy thinking about why you were holding a phone over the sink...
People die every day, you haven't, that's a big bonus in my book.
      What did it fail on?

Mines gonns fail as well, but I'm taking the mechanic some new CV Boots to fit AFTER it fails on them. "Apparently" once it's failed, they tend not to look as closely at some other things...like holey bumpers, slowly retracting inertia seat belts etc...

A few years ago, I saw someone deliberately swerve to try to run over a cat. They lost control and hit a parked car. I laughed; a lot. I laughed more when I found out that the owner of the parked car, who was a rather large chap, just happened to be the owner of the cat.

The guy who tried to hit the car was charged, under the animal cruelty act, with reckless driving, assault (he tried to hit the big bloke) and criminal damage.

The big guy got off with his ABH charge as he was hit first.

        Isn't karma a wonderful thing?

True the cat did just slink off after I swear giving me a dirty look....

They failed the truck on a worn arb bush, but the exhaust blowing and with a broken bracket tow bar electrics cable tied up on one of the chassis rails and with blue leds in the spot lights was ok?
Quick trip down to Roughtrax and one set of SuperPro bushes and I will be once again on my back under the truck....

Take it off. They can't fail an ARB if its not there!
See what I mean about them not looking any further...?
            eta
Having said that, if the exhaust is still secure they can't fail it, (blowing exhaust should be fail though due to exhaust gases under the car) spot lights (ancillary lighting) shouldn't dazzle, and if you turn them off, they aren't blue, are they?
My towing connectors are cable tied to the tow bar, mechanic said they would be fine for MOT, as long as secure....
it actual works quite well, because I can spin them up out the way when in the muddy stuff...

Did question the Mot tester about the ARB and his reply was if the ARB had been removed then it would fail,he did mention what the regulations stated about standard equipment and removal of a manufacturers safety feature.
Perhaps my test station focused on the safety aspect, last year they did an advisory for the rear tyres being at 4mm .

It can't fail if it was never there, he can't prove it was, therefore he must pass it.

ARBs are not a safety feature, they are a comfort feature.

I said as much as that to them.
Me " so if I roll up here to have the vehicle tested and I had previously removed the ARB you could not fail it on the ARB ?"
Them " we would fail it because they should be fitted"

Me "but how would you know?"
                        Them "because we do"

At which point I payed and buggered off.

Isn't a black crossing your path a good omen in this country? (It's bad luck in the USA, where most of out cultural reference points seem to come from now).
Admittedly the cat did not seem to give you a run of luck, you better start counting magpies.

Well I have just finished fitting the new bushes to the front ARB ,SuperPro poly bushes from Roughtrax ,I found having a ratchet strap around the chassis helped take up the tension from the bar whilst undoing and refitting the bolts.
The old bushes are rubber so probably the originals, they are egg shaped so pretty glad that I have changed them.

Also inbetween the rain showers managed to fit my new steering damper.
                              Many thanks to Ian
