  • G'day

Hi all, what have I missed? Just thought I'd drop by and say hello.
We bought a car over here. Owning a car is so much easier than back in England. Every six or 12 months you pay your similar MOT equivelant and it comes with 3rd party liability insurance. To obtain the MOT equivelant, just pay it before it lapses. Don't even need to take the car to be inspected (unless it lapses).

We've got a Ford Falcon 3.9 litre straight 6. It's absolutely crap (wasn't my idea but I went along with it!). I said I didn't care what we had as long as it had air conditioning. So:
    - Air conditioning doesn't work
    - Used to have a water leak (I fixed it)
    - Thermostat has been removed by previous owner
    - Rare fuel smell
    - Odometer stuck or disconnected
    - Max torque and power are slightly over 3000rpm, but the auto box is setup to change gear before 3000rpm even with foot planted.

    The good things are,
    - It's massive
    - It's strangely good on fuel although can't be precise. I think it's all because of the long straight roads and average constant speeds.

Other than that, I almost got a jellyfish to the face on a scuba dive the other week, the weather is good 99% of the time as well.

We'll probably look at buying a Surf, 2.4 in the near future.

I rented us a car when we first come over. We got a Hyundai Getz. Two things happened with that car with the auto box.
The first was that when accelerating onto the freeway with foot on the accelerator as normal the gearbox either selected the wrong gear or locked up. For a very short second we were thrown forward then immediately thrown back into our seats. No damage done, we laughed.
The second thing was again accelerating, the car was in second and went to change into third but just held the revs up without progressing any further. We both looked down to see if only [2] was selected on the selector. As we did that, the car slammed into 3rd, made the tyres squeal a tiny amount and on we went.

There is a free site slightly north which is just sand dunes. It is listed as 200ha in size - you can take any vehicle on there. Renting quads are $200 for the day or $300 for the weekend. We plan on doing this when one of my friends comes back from a mining site.

I haven't looked around much at websites or shops but I plan on buying some parts for the Surf in England and ship them back home. There are a lot of 4x4's here. Nearly all have snorkels and CB type aerials. A lot have winch type bumpers, all terrains or mud terrains and small lift kits.
That said, does anyone need any parts shipping from here?

I plan on buying some bits from Eng-Tek, and possibly a front end lift kit if it is viable. I have also looked around for a snorkel.

The time now is 2:15pm. at 4pm everyone downs tools and goes into the communal kitchen. There is a fridge which its sole purpose is to store beer, cider, Guinness etc for Friday at 4pm.
(I'm slightly worried about my liver )

I've also joined a beginners dance class although the first lesson is in a couple of weeks, so technically that isn't quite true just yet!

    All the best,
    Tony

Sounds like your having a good time mate, you don't seem the type to be prancing around having dance lessons but then again I did think you were a bit odd when I met you.

Take it easy mate & keep us posted.
If its not broke don't fix it.

Haha Thanks all. The dance lessons are for break dancing / popping. Will at least give it a go. I might have two left feet and have to leave.
