  • I have looked.

I've been looking at 3rd gens. God forbid, I'm going for a perm. Would anyone be able to furnish me with good/bad points of ownership.
Please note, if you want to offer stupid drunken inbred ramblings, whilst not being a 3rd gen owner, go do it somewhere else.
    Non intercooled nothing.

Ive missed something here Graham. Surfless and it sucks ? Looking for a 3rd gen ? Did you break Lexurf ? Did you sell it ?

Anyway, There are no downsides to 3rd gen ownership apart from the comments generated on here by jealous 2nd gen owners. The 3rd gen is just better. You know all about lift up tailgates, interior space, bigger wheels/brakes, proper full time 4WD if you want it, a normal pull up handbrake , no torsion bars, yah de yah etc etc, so no point banging on about all that. They are just a whole lot better. Thats all

Yes Alex...Lexurf has a new owner. I needed something more child freindly, and the Kia...it needs shot.
Very interested in a 2.7 petrol. Just wondering what the real big differences are.
I'm wanting one with a multimode transfer box. Anything else is a bonus.

Not driven a 2.7 so can't really pass comment on it but they are supposed to be better than my "3.0 derv with miltimode", ie fuel consumption, power, smoother ride.

Love my surf & was seriously concidering getting rid a few months back but i could'nt bring myself to sell it & ive just had my Ins renewal through & its cheaper than last year so she is definatly staying for another 12 months at least.
If its not broke don't fix it.

Good luck with that then. Petrol surfs for sale are pretty rare. Does your youngest still use a child seat?. Surf rear seatbelts are a bit on the short side when it comes to fitting a child seat, Ive got one in for the grandson and had to recline the rear seatback to get it fitted, and the seatbelt is still at its extremity. Other than that the 3rd gen is just 'better', Go on, get one, because youre worth it.

No p1ss taking from me, Gra. If my baby ever has to go, I will be going "3G", myself. Although I much prefer the look of 2nd gen's, I grudgingly admit that almost everything else about 3rd gen's is an improvement........

i have to say, the steering on a 2nd gen is a lot more "forgiving" with mid-corner potholes than the 3rd gen. Apart from that no complaints well apart from rear axle faults (rear seals and bearings) that have given grief, then the head went! apart from that it's a good old truck...

Jokes aside i do like the 3rd gen a lot it just took a bit of "getting used to" after the 2nd gen

Test drive a couple, you'll love them after a 2nd Gen.

There arn't to many down sides compared to a 2nd Gen, vaguely more 'plasticy' inside, and can feel a little more stiff over potholes, but its not that bad. The lift up tailgate is great to keep you dry when its ####ing down and getting stuff in the back.

Lots more room inside, especially the back seats, and more room getting in and out back doors for passengers too.

Intercooler bonnet looks cool, the 3.4 V6 is very quick, 2.7 is a great compromise between a noisy but more economical diesel and the juicy smooth 3.4, probably the best value for money.

Hold out the Multi-mode 4WD whatever motor you get, it's much more useful, but make sure it works or get a big discount if not as they can be a pain to fix if someone's messed around with it.

The flip down rear mirror on the spoiler on some models is the coolest thing in the world for hooking up trailers solo.

The 2.7 petrol I had was the best from the two second gen and two 3rd gens I have owned. I still regret selling it to our Alan. I say buy one you will love it pal.
