  • Failed mot

Failed mot today, I removed my rear anti roll bar the other week but apparently if it's fitted as standard then it has to be there and in good condition for the mot.
Also failed on exhaust, fog light and side lights

I didn't notice that in the new rules. That could bugger a few of us up!

It`s always been laid out like that but unless he can unequivocally prove the car was fitted with an anti roll bar as standard (which as it`s not an official UK car he can`t) it`s a pass and advise.

Some years ago I worked for Ford, Fiesta`s and Ka`s were available with or without anti roll bars, there did not seem to be any pattern to whether or not you got one or not on your car but they all had the mounting point for one to be fitted, what would be the outcome faced with something like that?

MOT training drums into testers time and time again that if there is any doubt it`s a pass and advise but unfortunately testers still take it upon themselves to think they are the law

Removed my rear anti roll bar eighteen months ago and it has been through two tests without problem, last one was six weeks ago.

Does seem like I got an arse of a tester then, nevermind, just refitted it and sorting the other stuff then get a free retest

Very interesting post,I wonder if the ministry have sent out new instructions to clamp down on modified vehicles?
I hope all those with an mot due soon will report back on the issue.
No ARB no Pass or if it was just a case of a tester being a bit , was going to say anal , but thorough will do.

Why did the tester fail the exhaust ? Was the exhaust modified in anyway?

My tester failed my truck as the fog lamp icon was not visible on the switch !!!!

Don't really want to have to go to hassle of putting ARB's and the like back on every time the mot is due...😱

Mines not due untill June but ive already had a pre-MOT check which gives me plenty of time to sort any fails ect.
                Sticking with one garage helps.
I mentioned this to my local garage and hes said he wouldnt fail it because whos to say it was ment to be there and he isnt aware of any rules saying it has to be.
Maybe ive just got a relaxed garage owner.

Failed on the exhaust due to a blow from the centre flexi section.
Fog lamp was ripped off in the mud a few months ago and forgot about it.
I have no fog lamp icon on the switch but he didnt say anything about that.

I watched the tester from a distance and he was being very thorough, even got other people to come and check my car over. i know i wont be taking it back to them next year. but i suppose thats what you get for a £22.50 MOT

oh well just the exhaust to sort today, then take it back up there for the retest
