Thanks again for all the replies. Ended up being between the Makita and Ryobi (the Hitachi has excellent spec but WHich? report reckons on crappy hammer action.
Went for Ryobi drill + jigsaw combo for £105 delivered http://www.tooled-up.com/Product.asp?PID=146394 Batteries are decent capacity for Ni-cads (1.7ah) and the charger will charge the later Li-ion batteries.
I use the Ryobi 18v all-in-ones. The batteries are interchangable, and the older yellow tools and black batteries work with the newer green tools with the grey batteries, and vice versa.
The newer batteries are much better than the older ones, but aren't cheap.
