  • Remember the Vauxhall Chavette?

I've always wanted a HSR version with the Lotus tuned 2.3, but I've just come accross this and now I want one even more.

I've driven both HS and HSR Chevettes and when I was on the tools, we 'made' an HSR from a normal Chevette.

The HS(R) was never mass produced, so it's not possible to get a factory shell, they were all custom built.
Do you know that, with a 50 character limit, it's

I remember building one with a Rover V8 in it, for a customer, in '89. Lightning off the mark but scary as f##k on the bends!

Recon that was the first chavmobile we used to call them shoveits as they were always breaking down. What with these and alegros its no wonder we got no car industry left.

There seems to be a theme here.
I know a lad who had a beige one, didn’t like the colour so painted it blue.

He didn't use a spraycan though.
He use blue hammerite and a big brush.

sounds the part too running on the quad carbs

$1000 for the inlet manifold - simple ign system and its bye bye to all the electronic gubbins

i saw they do a 4 barrel holley manifold as well

dont suppose it does much for the mpg though - last v8 i ran on a holley got about 8mpg but it was loads of fun

Missus 1st car was a £50 chevette. Sold it 2 years later for the same money.

We also had a black one of these - imo nicer than the chevettes and I'd love another one.

Love this thread, My first car was a shovelshit. Bright red, chrome bumpers and I put huge wheels on the back and small ones on the front to make it look like a race car. Best £100 I ever spent

Love the HSR shaped Chevettes, my friend had a 2 Door Coupe Viva/Firenza, that was a great looking motor too.

                      It was brown too...

I had one of these, it was dark blue and had been painted with a roller.
Threw a rod through the side of the block, on the M4 just before J11 back in 1986. Managed to keep it going with some left foot braking, into Whitley before it died!

Vince, I used to have a white Chev van, I completely forgot! Was my Ex's first car, for her to 'practice' driving and parking in.

Wonder if a lexus engine could be squeezed into a mid 70s celica. That would be a bit of a dream car.
