My Rover (220GTi Turbo) was on Police Camera Action, it escaped with no damage apart from a broken lock. I had it for another 2 years after I got it back.

Until your plate has been cloned.
It causes unwanted hassle proving you are the inocent party. I too have had a car stolen and used in a robbery with guns. Car was written off, I had C.I.D take me to Chiswick nick to prove where I was at the time. I survied too!
Each to their own, but I prefer to limit what I put out the the word wide web.

On my old car's forum, there was a guy who had his plate cloned, on a car that there are only 800 of in the UK! Narrow that down to model, year, and colour and you're down to about 50 cars...But nevertheless they cloned a rare car.
After the initial "conversation" with the police he was blighted with calls at all hours asking him to prove his whereabouts, everytime both cars went through any ANPR camera...
So yes, cloning happens. Often? Compared to the number of cars on the road I'd say its very rare.

Maybe the law is a bit different up here, but the onus is on the police to prove guilt, not us to prove innocense? It doesn't always work right enough.

I honestly don't know how it relates to those north of the border but I do know that my brother got stung for a parking fine in London. We couldn't say if it was a cloned registration or just the traffic warden writing the reg number down incorrectly but my brother couldn't prove he wasn't there and as with so many things introduced by the last government the presumption actually IS of guilt unless you can prove otherwise...
