  • Surf models

Just wondered if any one else doubted what model Surf they had ...

I have an SSR-G badge on my surf but the longer I have it the more I think it might be a lower model rebadged.

Reasons for this are ... the interior was the crappy grey one, have now swapped it over for leather front and grey/black rear.

Door cards were same as the seats, now swapped over for the grey/black.

Apparently the "G" range should have LSD

I thought that the top of the range "G" would have either the black/grey or recaro interior

    What are your thoughts ?

The basic difference with the G's is the recaro interior. You will probably find that the front seats got worn out so were changed for the ones in there.LSD wasn't fitted to any particular model either. Some ssr's had it as with the ssrg's and ssrx's etc.
Someone could of just stuck on a the SSRG badge also

      Thanks for the reply

All my interior was the standard grey stuff, seats and all door cards so doubt it is actually an SSR-G.

I might get shot down here if I have this wrong, but I think the Model number on your VIN plate will clarify what Surf you have.

Eg, mine ends in 'GAPXT' which I understand relates to body style (G & A codes), four speed auto transmission (P), SSR-X model (X), and Turbo (T)

If this is right, a check under the bonnet should help and while I can't remember where I found the source of the various above codes, it was somewhere on t'internet.

PS. The 'Trans/Axle' codes on your VIN plate should tell you whether your diff had LSD - I am not sure how these codes work but I recall the answer was in the same source as above t'internet search.

Mine's the rare SSR-V, it has black/grey seats, door cards and trim.
It doesn't have the "Soft" button, but supposedly has an LSD...

I believe the range is SSR, V, X, G Lexurf

The thing is with the surfs that alot of the differences you'll find with them are down to the little Jap fella when he bought it new and had what ever extras he wanted fitted

I'll have to take a look at the vin plate tomorrow for the rest of the codes, thanks for the info

True but I don't think it would have the basic seats, cards if it was an ssr-g even with Mr Jappy blokes fitting options.

As well as the Recaro interior, didn't all the 2nd gen SSR G's have cruise control buttons on their steering wheels?

This might provide some clarity on what came as standard or was an option on various years / models. There appear to have been about 4 or 5 different SSR X variations in 1998 so it's nearly impossible (for a '98 third gen at least) to state categorically anything along the lines of 'this model has a super duper widget so it must be an SSR G'. As an earlier poster suggested, the original Japanese buyers were so fond of extras that this has meant that the differences between models have often been completely blurred.

Not for me. I get a list of models from 1989 through 2002 and all links work fine.
                            Anyone else have a problem?

Try going down from the next level up - the Surf is listed under the 'SUV & Offroad' category:
