  • Importing from japan and first reg in uk ? 2012

I last imported a Surf ( 3rd Gen diesel - 1996 model ) direct from Japan in 2007. I did not experience major problems.

I am currently in process of importing another 1996 Surf.

It has occurred to me ( a bit late in the day as I have already paid for the car ) to wonder whether import regs and /or DVLA new registration regs / MOT Regs have changed / got more difficult ?

I do not see any posts concerning this during the last couple of years, and wondered if any forum members have current or recent experience of direct importation ?

For anyone interested, this is the link to the Surf I have bought :

I think as long as you don't use ALGY'S AUTOS you have a good chance of getting the same truck you paid for.

I think importing is less often done these days due to the weak pound.

There should some 4th gens ready for export soon, the early ones will be coming up to ten years old now.

There were a few 4th Gens on that site...

Not acquired the taste or funds yet though.

A bit too much black going on for me though, needs silver/polished wheels and red rear lights.

As much as I reckon Black is the only colour I ever want on my cars both outside and especially inside, I have to agree with you, deffo needs brighter wheels at minimum to lift the look a bit.

I seen on some other threads here that some were having difficulty with the new London emissions thingy as their Surfs were registered as light 4x4 utility or something like that, seems getting its bodystyle classed as an estate from the start may be of benefit later.

                Ideal first car, apparently.

                I like the 4th gen.
