  • Touching wood!

Got my "service pack" from R/traxs this week and set about the engine.
    New cambelt
New thermostat (the old one had been butchered to overcome an overheating issue)
    Rad cap
    Filters
    Brake pads
New water pump from Ebay (cheers Ballsy)
    ARB bushes (another issue)
The old coolant was like rusty chocolate,so I've drained and filled twice with new antifreeze,as at the moment theres no chance of flushing the system.

So with new pump, thermostat, and rad cap installed,I've managed a few local round trips of about 15 KM's,with no signs of head issues, time will tell!

If the heads good, I've bagged a very cheap Surf, if its not, I've done a little worse

Overall I'm very pleased with it.Theres loads of "bits" to do on it,but thats good, because when its all done I get bored with them!!

Cross your fingers for me fellas!!

    Cheers

    Mark

Not quite sure what you mean by "never ran right". Normally if someone cuts up a thermostat, its either A: because the stat is knacked and they can't get hold of another,or B: theres another issue going on and it helps to mask that problem!
In my trucks case the water pump was weeping and I think, and hope the previous owner was losing water and then heating her up. I just need to hope that in doing so he has'nt done any other damage!!

Incidently, dose'nt the Fronterra run an Isuzu engine?? Not a bad engine from what I remember of my Vauxhall Midi days.

IIRC, It's only the 2.8td that's an Isuzu lump the rest are GM,

It was a 2.2 petrol ecotec engine in mine.
When I got it it had no stat! I fitted a new one & it was ok untill the stat stuck shut & overheated the engine blowing the rad with it.
Fitted another new stat and that went the same way after a few months, so I took it out and left it out.
The thing always ran hot but never broke down, couldn't be arsed with it anymore so sold it to a Latvian taking it home.

Job done , now have Surf
