VIN plate on Surf - URGENT!

Concerned about getting nicked because if no weights on plate or V5 you should not be towing according to various sources. I was under the impression that on import a VIN was issued when it went through the compliance test as one is required for KIT cars.

Nah, not for imports, kit cars don't have any ID when built, so need some form of VIN number, on imports they have a Model number and a Chassis number, so still have a unique ID, and the DVLA uses the Model number to rego the truck.

Just on holiday for a few weeks travelling through and maybe on to Spain if we are lucky. Nothing confirmed yet though.

What do you call "Tempory exportation" ?To be resident in a country you have to be living there for over half of the year!

You can't get a certificate of conformity for a surf, flat,as it dose'nt exist.You can get a certificate of non conformity,and then go through the lines of a SVA,ask me how I know!! You can get a certificate of conformity for the surfs cousin IE the 4 runner,but all this is academic unless you are planning to move to europe permanently. As long as your vehicle complies with the regulations of its registration country,and you are not towing Zippos circus into town,there's didly sqawt the French police,or the Gendarmarie can do with your vehicle.

BTW I don't think anyone can issue a c of c for a third Gen because it was never sold in Europe???

What I also forgot to mention is that we may want to use the vehicle for towing in the EU and for this we probably would need a "Certificate of Conformity" which apparently you cannot get without the weights. Don't fancy spending any time is a French prison etc. I don't think there is an issue if you are not towing.

you will be fine as it is.I would say the only time you need the towing weights is when the vehicle is over a certain weight to start with

Googling "4 runner" shows that the maximum braked traler weight is 2200kgs with kerbweight of 1830kgs. It appears that towing the caravan with MTPLM I am well within the towing capabilities. Just concerned about the no weights issue on the VIN plate.

I've towed 3t with my old 2nd gen and i've gone pass police and they have gone pass me and it never bothered them.
My old 3rd gen i had a tractor on the trailor towing and that was a heavy beast to tow
