  • -40C winter driving and fuel Additives

I bought my wife a 1994 3.0 Surf for her 'Mid' Life crisis in May.

In Saskatchewan, Canada, As it is already Feburary we use winter grade diesel fuel whch has anti-geling already added at the refinery

I currently use Howes diesel conditioner and anti-gel and have not had any issues

I was wondering what everybody else has done to limit fuel geling.

I don't think a lot of people on this forum are used to those kinds of temperatures!
When I used veg oil, I used more Diesel fuel and some white spirit (as per forum recommendation). Seemed to do the trick, not had any issues but don't use it anymore as it's no longer economical.
    Oh Nana, what's my name?

Most additives have anti-gelling properties, but what you REALLY need them for is to add the lubricity back into the fuel as our low-sulpher diesel can cause injector pump failure. Make sure you use a fuel additive to every tank, and you should be fine.

Nice to see another Canuk on here, post some pics of your truck!

Thanks for all of the reply's

I have noticed (for good or bad) that the fuel injector seems quieter with the fuel additive

I will post pictures once I get the lift kit installed and new shocks in a couple of weeks
