Van Advice (Toyota-Related)

Mate is looking at a 51 Plate Toyota Hiace 2.4 Diesel van FSH 66K miles - is this the same 2.4 lump as in the Mk2 Surf, and does it have the head issue resolved by the newer design?

Any advice welcome. He neds something bulletproof for £3.5 ish.

Our Farrier has an 03 plate one, with pushing 300k miles on it.

His is the D4D motor, a 2.5 loosely based on the 3.0, if its a pre D4D then its exactly the same as a 2L 2.4 Surf motor (minus A/C, EFI, and Turbo usually) But I've never done a head on a 2L Pickup or Hiace, only Surfs.

The 2.4 Hi Ace vans don't seem to have head issues, but from knowing a few people who had them, I believe that they're rather thirsty...........

Thanks for the replies. Dude is a motorbike racer, knows bikes inside out but seems cursed when it comes to anything with 4 wheels

He was impressed by the Surf but he needs something that will haul his R1 and kit inside, without breaking down.
