Engine oil???

Just tried to look up what oil to get for a service on my truck.....
Found the info in the "stickies" section but,,,,,,,,,,


can anyone DE-CIPHER it for me ....

"Oil Grade.
Petrol.....
API SG or SH multigrade, or ILSAC multigrade.
Recommended viscosity....
Diesel.....
API CD or better"



Asda have some oils on special offer at present and as my sis works there i can get an extra % off!!!

I read that some use 10W40 and some use 15W40. I try and use the 10W40 in the winter times and the other in the summer.

It makes no difference in an eighteen year old agricultural diesel engine.
