  • Hello all

I have a 98 Toyota 4runner. The American version of a Hilux Surf. I would love to own a Surf however living in U.S.A it's extremely hard to find them. I am big fan of Toyota and have been since I got my driver's liscence in 1996. I look forward to chatting with you all.

Hello Ryan. Welcome to the Forum. In the UK the 4Runner was a pretty low spec vehicle. In the States, however, you will find that many of your 4Runners ( SR5's ) are the equivalent, or higher spec (Leather interiors, etc) than a Surf. ( Surfs are all right hand drive, too. ). Anyway, Enjoy your truck, and the forum, and post some pics of your ride...........Cheers....Mick.

Thank you Mick. I try to enjoy her as much as I can. I like the window visors I see on Surfs. I am also in the market for some nice aftermarket wheels that are common in the UK. Not to mention the rear tire carrier. I have searched everywhere I can think of in the US for Surf accessories that are compatible with my 4runner with no luck. I know the window visors will fit. The wheel bolt patterns are the same and the rear tire carrier will fit with very little modification. I can't buy a Surf but I'm hoping to make mine look like one as much as I can.

        Cheers
        Ryan

Welcome to the forum Ryan, where abouts in the States are you? Looks like a State where rust isn't a problem.

I'm in Missouri. Springfield, MO actually. Rust is a deal out here but my 4runner came from Arizona where it's all desert.

Thanks. I am an active member on t4r.org and mo4wd.com. Also a member of yotatech and toyotanation. I also use stlfan on the forums. I am very pleased I found this sight. I need to get a lesson on terminology though. For example what is "breaker"?

In this instance, a breaker refers to someone who supplies used surf spares, from a "breaker". A dismantled surf, or one about to be "broken" is also a breaker.
This should not be confused with someone who manipulates dough for a living. He is a baker.

                        Welcome btw.

I think your term would be "Parted out"
