What the point of theses?

Either they are for "styling" purposes or they stabilise the sub light transfer field before the vehicle hits warp drive , but only if the "red button" is on.

My money would be on styling

I think the idea is to keep the side windows clear in racing applications when in damp/rainy conditions....to keep weight down I guess race/rally cars oftem forego a heating system.
