Using Smilies

i wish i could get the hang of putting my signature on a post, and be able to use smilies, and colours like everybody else, when i pick a colour it says the name of the colour in letters, and when i click a smilie it says the name of the smilie in letters, what am i doing wrong, new to surfing, but not new to computers ( just hopeless )

That's how it appears in the type box, if you hit "preview reply" you can see how it will look when posted.

Go to profile using the button at the top of the screen, then select the button signature, type in your signature, done.
Smilies, open up the smilies and click on the smilie you want (click on the actual icon/smilie) and voila smilie in your post.

For the text, highlight/select the text you want to alter go to colour/font/size and click on your selected choice and it should be done
