  • Mobile phone service providers

Well coming from Yorkshire, the home of Dick Turpin, who is the least likely robber from the mobile phone world ?

My Nokia X6 is about to meet it's end but still have a few months contract with O2 (very unreceptive to complaints)

So what guidance from our learned collective ? Who do you suggest ?

Whatever you do John stay away from 3 mobile, the worst company it has ever been my misfortune to have had dealings with.

I've been with 3 for nearly eight years now and no problems. PAYG though not contract.

3 have been pretty good to me, iphone and iPad - when abroad they really bombard you with texts messages warning me about my bill... not all providers are so courteous.
For me great data rate...O2 appalling

Would you believe it ? The O2 online adviser tells me I should buy a pay as you go phone now, and just swap my sim card over to the new phone and, he will knock £50 off the price of the phone for my 'inconvenience' !!! Then he back tracks as the replacement phone is not yet available ???

I have been with Vodafone for over 15 years!

They usually have the best signal in general. - my only gripe is that they can put their own version of software on phones... easily removed though

I recently picked up a Samsung Galaxy S2, I recomend it!
            More Lift.
            More Tyres.
            More Engine.

Completely agree, Vodaphone signal seems best but don't bother going to the store, customer service is awful. Get a vodaphone contract but buy it through carphone warehouse, works a treat.

I've been with O2 since they were Securicor. I can't fault them or their service.

02 have been fine. 3 were shite. I think they are all as good/bad as each other. Vodafone seem to have the best deals lately.

Well, this won't help but :-
I've been with 02 for over 12 years and never had a problem
My works phone is Vodaphone and I've never had a problem
My eldest daughter is with 3 - never had a problem
My youngest daughter is with Virgin - never had a problem

Told you I wouldn't be much help.

The only thing is that customer services appears to be sh!te with all of them.

My wife has the X6 and was a good phone to start with but now she has reception problems and the camera no longer takes a decent picture. She is considering upgrading. She was thinking of the iPhone, but not the new one (too expensive) as she has an iPad
Dislike phones that have all sorts of stuff relating to the network preloaded. Prefer a clean phone that is standard as they give less problem.

The X6 on the whole has been a good phone, had some excellent pics. Customer service , we got off on the wrong foot, The back on the phone did not fit flush, I was told to send it back by pre-arranged courier, no show 3 times, local O2 shop didn't want to know because I had done an on-line deal but they recognised the fault with the phone, overall 4 weeks to get a replacement, anyway the phone keeps shutting down so it's time to cut losses and start again. Thought about Samsung galaxy and HTC desire plus Nokia N8

any guidance is much appreciated !

What about GiffGaff? SIM only mind - you need your own phone first.

Apparently they're the cheapest on the market, especially for smartphones & they use the O2 network.

Ideal if you have an iphone just out of contract.

                          That's where I'm off to...

I was with Orange for years but fell out with them when I wanted to return a handset a day outside of the cooling-off period. My mistake, but for the sake of a day, they didn't want to know. So anyone but them.

Vodafone used to sponsor Un*ted so same there.

I have flitted between o2 and t-mobile and never had a problem. Nokia N8 has been great; camera is awesome for a phone. No issues with the handset. I'll stick with it for a while; the new Nokia/MS collabo sets have a lesser camera. The iphone doesn't appeal as the camera isn't as good as the N8 and I hate apple software. The phone is very well made and the interface is good but you pay for it. Oh, and I hate Steve Jobs.

N8 looks nice < I have been offered £50 trade in for the X6, think I may buy the phone then get sim seperate, still on 3 month contract at work so don't want to commit just yet

tried the iphone (son, nephew and niece all have them) not that impressed
