Tire size help please

Hi all,
been offerd 4 Cooper ATs 215x80x15 for £125. However my curent tyres are 31x10.50xR15s. Will these fit (ie straight swap (coopers will need taking of rims to put on my allows).
What difference would any size difference make to handling/running costs.

the 215/80/15 in old money is only 27.7" height, so would have a smaller rolling diameter

your 31's are 31" so much bigger

plus the 215 is a lot skinnier a tyre too

in my opinion they would look weird and wrong on a surf

So would i be right in saying my tyres are "taler" (top to bottom) and the difference between a 80 and a 10.50 means mine are thicker across the width.
A bit worrying as ive just checked the spare on the back and its a 215 x 70 x 15 so totally wrong.

Hi, the 215 is the width, the 80 is the % of width that makes the profile (rubber between wheel and edge of tyre)

so at the mo the 31" is the overall height, 10.5" is the width -the 215 is about 8" wide and smaller in height overall coming out at 27.7"
