All the indications are that the population will soon start to shrink. Increased wealth in third world countries (and especially reduced child mortality counterintuitively) and increased women's rights are the two main brakes on population growth, and both are heading gently in the right direction. It will probably take a while, but ever increasing growth is most unlikely.
