Does anyone else think that it is pretty ironic.... all this fuss about a load of travellers that want to stay in one place?

Travelers they most certainly are not but they are people who have been turfed out of their homes in the name of planning regulations. I`ve never been homeless but i`ve teetered on the edge of it once and its not a good feeling. personally i`d prefer the 18 million its cost to remove them to have been used in a better way and for them to be left to do whatever it is that they do. I realise a minority of people have had their view of the countryside spoilt by their presence and they cause disruption in the local village but thats tough, the country is full of people and they have to go somewhere and as long as its not here then that`ll do me fine.

It's funny but when the law was on the side of the pikeys they were all for everyone else having to abide by it, but ad soon as it goes against them then they're up in arms. Would have been better to leave the police out of it and let the army use them as a training exercise, with loaded SA80's and fixed bayonets. Can't see any of the rentamob wanting to stay around in the face of a determined bayonet charge. Could have cleared out the vermin double quick.Mike G

well now, they are going to live up to their name now and travel , question: if you are a traveller why do you need a permanent site to live on? No one can be made homeless as their "home" is usually being towed about by some sort of commercial vehicle.

I think the Daily Mash link is about right. There is so much stupid rhetoric from both extremes its hard to take the whole thing seriously.
Ethnic cleansing? Holocaust? It's nothing of the sort. They broke the law, the same one that anyone else would end up having to follow. They fought things for 10 years and lost. From what I've seen of things the ones that are willing to move have done so (even if it's only into another part of the same place that actually HAS got planning permission) and the usual suspects from the "far left" (as much as I hate that political description) are joining in to cause trouble.
Given that planning permission has been granted for a reasonable sized area for permanent occupation by caravans, etc (certainly much much bigger than the site a few hundred yards from where I live) I suspect that the locals aren't hugely bothered by the presence of the travellers but the council has concerns about other things (excess traffic using local roads I would imagine for a start).
I just completely fail to see why it's a big deal apart from the Guardian-reading media elite at the BBC feeling sympathy for the "far left" anarchist troublemakers and the Daily Fail types getting worked up about hating something that is alien to them...
