Is it possible that the idiot had a sufficient quantity of diesel in the tank and then added sufficient petrol to make the resultant mix maginally effective i.e. it will run while hot (Albeit banging and clattering like a ten bob whore) but when cold it wouldn't fire up ?
It would start, use up the diesel in the fuel lines (quickly) then stop. If by some miracle it didn't and actually ran for upwards of 10 miles on pre-ignition only ... no, it wouldn't, not with more petrol than DERV Fuel.

Anyway, I'm leaving too.
But there's no reliable information as to how much petrol was added to what quantity of diesel ...
Not trying to be an arse but I'm aware that working on 3rd hand info frequently results in misinformation
In the past I may have inadvertently put a gallon or so of petrol into my Fawkus before realising and then topped it up with diesel myself
In most respects most diesels will run ok with 10% petrol as we all know but, what would be the limit on derv/petrol ratio before it becomes too much to run in a diesel? I do remember that an allegro (yes it's quite a while back) ran on 25% diesel/petrol ratio (think it was the 1.5 engine) it smoked like a pig and was a t**t to start but it ran and it was amazingly clean in the end when we took it apart....
I'M ALWAYS IN THE SH'T, IT'S ONLY THE DEPTH THAT VARIES!!!!!!!!
I take my apology back...you, sir, are still (in my opinion) a prick.
Well at least you call me 'sir'
Look, I'm sure you may be a decent bloke face to face as many of your posts are quite normal and coherant but you have to accept that if you come on a forum and every now and again get all sh!tty and go all CAPSLOCK for a post or two because you think you've been slighted or called a liar (and if you start doing the old 'well if you come and meet me face to face I'll tear you a new one' schtick) that you are going to get pulled up on it as it makes you seem like a child with little control of your emotions hence my comment.
I would have said the same thing had your handle been Voodoo Princess if that helps at all.
This forum is excellent and I have never seen so many people who don't know each other in the face to face sense be so open to help but you also have to put up with people doubting you (particularly if what you say doesnt make sense) disagreeing with you or outright taking the pi55, particularly if you say you're leaving repeatedly and then don't, you have to see that looks a bit ridiculous? Calm down a bi t and you probably won't find it so stressful.
If she put petrol in just as the light has come on...then there could have been around 5 litres of fuel in th car give or take.....ten quid only gives about 7 litres anyway these days...so a 50/50 mix would make a diesel car run...it would run lika a bag of sh*t....but it would run. We're talking about a woman here, her car is simply a mode of transport....if it was running like a bag of shit she wouldnt notice....I've seen women drivin around on flat tyres and not known......women driving cars with no friction material left on their brake pads and just thought it was 'getting a bit noisy'.
I've worked on engines of all kinds since the age of 13 or 14, when you live and work on a farm you have to. I got fed up with working for family by age 20 so went to college gaining my City and Guilds levels 1,2 and 3 in the repair and servicing of Motor Vehicles.....I worked for 2 years in a commercial environment and decided I didnt want to fix cars etc for a living, I wanted to keep it as my hobby cos I was getting sick of working on humdrum and then being too tired to then play with my own cars when I got home. I went into sales and did very well for 10 years or so, then I met my beautiful fiance, we had kids and I stopped working to allow her to carry on doing her (2nd) masters degree. She passed with flying colours and found the job she has now and I went self employed repairing cars for people I know and their friends...I buy and sell the odd car too, whatever keeps the wolves away ...so, my life in summary......I have almost as much general knowledge as any other self confessed mechanic in here...I am no specialist in any particular field an neither do I prefess to be clever...but I know my sh*t too....so DONT belittle me and call me a liar just cos I have experienced something that you maybe havent. Its rude and extremely small minded.
I have no reason to lie, I'm only here cos I have a Surf.
Next time you want to insult me....lets arrange a meeting, i'll gladly let you say whatever you want to, if I dont like it....I'll gladly rip you a nice new anal passage....:)
I am amazed you are still here ......Ford Prefect got Banned for calling someone a P**** and He posted less than you
Ian has a point, lets keep the outright childish name calling to minimum, there is to much shit slinging backwards and forwards to single anyone out this time.
If you can stick up for yourself, but it dosn't have be that abusive, also the replies don't need to be that abusive, you can point out someones failings, and call them out without breaking the rules.
I can't see what you gaining out of all these posts apart rubbing people up the wrong way. If it really that stressful why bother? If you're doing on purpose then sling your hook, if you don't know what you're doing wrong then you need to re-read your posts form an outsiders point of view, they come across as arrogant, argumentaive and confrontational. You really need to take a breath and try and get to know people here rather than stomping in and shouting.
Its easy to stretch the rules for people who have been here a long while, have contributed lots of help, info and entertainment over the years, a gobby newbie dosn't get the same privileges.
