  • Really Really Really Really Pee'd Off

Just went to check on the garage I am using to store my spares for the truck in until I get time to move them to the new build.

All looks OK until i go to open the doors and find that some B'stard has swapped them out and put his own locks on it

It's where I keep my spare 33's and other large bits that won't go down the cellar to easily.

Anyways out comes angle grinder and within minutes his locks are on the floor and 30 mins later garage is empty and fortunately no missing equipment

Don't know if this was some local shit heads targeting it for emptying or the new landlord laying claim to what his perceives his.

Either way their in for a shock

I cut the bl00dy doors off as well

New build is almost complete Just need to add the top felt and guttering, plus a couple of trim pieces to make that got broken in the move.

Not so much renting as "took over" when it became vacant 4-5 years ago when the building development was first announced so no fallout to come my way

So, have (Bob and) I got this straight? You've been squatting a garage for five years, the owner has put locks on it without removing or damaging any of your property and your response, rather than to call them and try to arrange to retrieve your property, was to cut the doors off their building?

If (and it's a big if) that's correct, I think you may have caused yourself a much bigger problem.

Petty much agree with all that's been said, But think that a notice of intended ownership / reclaim (date) should of been attached to the door ... otherwise I would of done as Andy has oooohh no I wouldn't I'd of tugged it off with me Truck ...

hehe, I have agree with Sancho and Vince, was just about to type the same.

I thought it was your garage, not one you nicked!

Sure get your stuff out if someone's taking an interest in it, but you can't get annoyed about it!

Best break this down a bit before you all get worked up too much

Yup, was squatting on the land, not in the garage. I pay ground rent on the other 3 plots I have. Garage was handed to me by private owner when they moved out. Reason for this was we were trying to keep as many garages "in use" whilst we fought the development.

New land owners probably checked all garages no ground rent being paid on and thought they'd claim the contents. Didn't realise this until the following day when I found all the other new locks.

As we have no formal notification of the "lock out" or and no contact details for the new land owners it was rather difficult to contact them. Plus coming home late at night to find some sod had replaced my locks had me thinking it was local bunch of thieves that had hit the area twice before.

Garage was due to be left for them to demolish anyway, I've just started a little earlier than they had planned.

I'm just waiting for the local builder to turn up and see how he retrieves his equipment
