  • my turn for stupid question...

has anyone used roof bars and a luggage carrier? reason i ask is that we're off camping next week and i'm running out of space in the Surf - think we're taking everything except the cat with us. (even number 1 son is comming!)

are the bars easy to fix etc, and can anyone recommend any makes etc. if i can manage it, i'll try to get one this week but time is running out and i'm about to hit the panic button especially as i've got 3 days to do 8 day's worth of work in!

    pass the cider please anyone!

thanks in advance guys (and gals)

just the clamp-on type - I really dont wanna drill holes in the Surf lol.

roughtrax are showing a set for £90 (halfrauds wanted over £150 and had to order special and even then couldn't say how they fitted!)

          cheers Geoff

I'm just surfing the net now - looks like there may be a company near me who do a complete set for under £150!

If you have a local importer/dealer then it's well worth asking if they have any roof trays (they tend to take them off)

It takes loads and you can happily stand on it. No drilling required

Mine came with roof bars attacked.

They attack prettu much like that phote up there ^, just under the door tops.

It's a great idea to ask a local dealership if they have any.

I shoudl think you coudl try any second hand 4x4 dealership, they might have some knocking about they would sell cheap.

If you want roof bars then Thule do a set to fit. Yes, they are expensive, but you can re-use the bars on other vehicles. Mine are 961 bars (correct are 962) with 750 foot pack. Can't remember the fitting kit number but it's in the Thule catelogue under 4Runner.

Pic attached of my car with bars fixed with cycle racks. You could then add a roof tray or the top part of a cheap roof rack to give you the extra space needed.
