  • Fitting manual hubs, worth doing wheel bearings at the same time?

    Hello again fellow surfians

Just another bit of random usless thinking going on in my head,
Im fitting some new asin manual hubs in a week when they arrive in the post and wondering if there is very much extra work involved in renewing the bearings?
They dont make any noise its just that I dont know how long they should last for after all shes a 20 year old truck now (only 180ks though)

Basicly do they fail or should they last longer than the truck?

PS: in its short 180k life shes had 3 motor swaps
    Bit of a hard life
Its a new truck, Because every parts been replaced

The quick answer is, yes, much more work.

Manual hubs - 20 mins max per side.
Wheel bearings - around 1.5 hours per side.

Properly adjusted and lubed tapered roller bearings will go forever, providing they are not damaged in any way, or get water and dirt in through a dud seal.

If you don't know when they were last serviced then remove the hubs, clean and inspect for damage, replace if needed, or regrease and reinstall. Use a new inner hub seal.
