  • Paypal sucks!

I get this when I log into my account, which I have held with them for the past eight years!.......

Your account access has been limited for the following reason(s):
26 Aug 2011: You have received £1,900 or more in total payments to your PayPal account in this calendar year. PayPal is required by law to comply with European Union Anti-Money Laundering regulations by collecting information from customers when they receive more than £1,900 in total payments within a calendar year. Until you provide us with the information we need your account will be limited. You won't be able to send or withdraw any money using PayPal, however, you may still be able to receive payments.

I can't do anything with my money thats in the account, but 'fortunately' I can still receive payments. Oh whoop-de-fcuking do that's a great help, Batsards!!!

They've asked me for proof of I.D and my address which I have sent, but three days in, the account is still frozen.

    Anyone else suffered this?

Mine got stopped earlier this year due to a "random security check", I only really use it for eBay items so it's once a blue moon but when your bidding on an item & win it, you can't pay for it. 9 days to sort it out.

    Paypal boils my pi$$.
If its not broke don't fix it.

Poo, not come up against that yet.

But sounds about right for the money laundering paranoia, and probably not really Paypals fault.

So what happens if your selling your motor for £2000, is that it, your under investigation?

Just a note for paypal users i sold a set of seats for £350 the guy paid via paypal collected them signed a recipt and left. He gave me good feedback then 2 weeks later my account was blocked by paypal then £350 was removed.
The guy said he never got the seats!! because i had no proof of postage i lost the money and the seats a recipt is worth nothing paypal said as you could have written it yourself.

So cash only on collection stuff.
GRAVITY IS A MYTH THE EARTH SUCKS!!!

That's a common scam. It happens all the time, particularly in the service industry.

Providing the info does not mean that you are under investigation. It is just a requirement of the regs, so that if there were ever to be an investigation then there would be somewhere to start.
There are some quite sophisticated algorithms that can show up patterns of shifting money that look like serious crime and terrorism. But you don't have much to worry about from transactions on paypal unless you are getting lots of small payments from Saudis!
I doubt whether HMRC have access to that sort of info - although they could probably demand access in a tax investigation.

I got burned by that very same scam. Even the FOS couldn't do a thing because paypals T&Cs make sure they never lose any money, and any cost of claims is always passed to the users. I'll never use them again.

It's the same with any bank, it's not unique to PayPal. A bank will not absorb a chargeback on a credit card, they will always pass it back to the retailer, in PayPal's case; that's us.

                              Paypal

I asked my building society how we stood if we sold a car for more than £2000(that was the limit at the time)They said it had to be reported only if you were paying in that amount or more in one go in cash, even then they said pay in half today and half tomorrow to get round the rules.
If paypal are correct then anybody with more than 2 grand in the bank were up for investigation, they couldnt cope with that amount of paperwork, paypal must have their info wrong, complain to the FSA ombudsman.
