  • Lazy 3.0 auto box

Was going to post this in the 3.0 section, but the number of replies on a lot of threads isn't very encouraging, so here goes...I've checked previous posts for this problem but the jury is still out on most likely cause, really so I'll ask- 1993 KZN130 i have loaned to a friend, lowish miles (and not apparently mistreated or a heavy tow-er before being owned by me) is holding lower gears for too long on acceleration (3000rpm at 40 before shift). Is just a service / atf change likely to do the job or is this a sign usually of the 'box being tired / on the way out?

When was the ATF last changed and how many miles has it done since then ?

Couple of things to check first, does it shift through the gears quicker if you use the gear lever starting from L up to D?

Is the kickdown cable properly adjusted and not taught?

Your ECU Capacitors could be going bad...late or lazy shifting is one of the signs of this..you can open the ECU and look for leaking/swollen capacitors and damage tracks

Check your ect button isn't pressed in.
If I'm not mistaken it allows the engine and box to rev higher before changing gear.
It's the button on the centre console above the gear lever.
