Lifted from the "hootsmon" newspaper. I didnt even know that the government were planning on biannual MOTs

MOT testing centres vary alarmingly in the quality of their services, a new survey has revealed.
What Car? magazine found "alarming disparities" in Ministry of Transport approved centres, with some missing potentially dangerous faults after visits from "mystery shoppers".

They visited six garages within five days with a six-year-old Corsa that the RAC had inspected and failed for its MoT. One garage in south-west London failed to detect a problem with a track-rod end ball joint, that could have led to a loss of steering. Four centres failed to pick up on a broken clip on a brake pipe or chipped windscreen.

What Car? editor Chas Hallett urged the government to bolster the current system to ensure safety is a priority.

He said: "With so much disparity between different garages, we think the government should scrap its plans for biannual MoT tests and focus instead on tightening up the current system to ensure motorists stay safe in their cars and on our roads."

A spokesman for the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (Vosa) which runs the MoT system, said: "A number of your findings have caused Vosa some concern, which we will address with the garages involved."

If they do go ahead with it, what's the betting it'll be a biannual fee as well.
