My missus told me about the fuel gauge matching the filler cap thing and we tested it on the next few cars we got in. Worked out 50/50....

    The internet agrees...

1983 MINI: filler and exhaust, both on near side.
(Mini's were not made with a centre exhaust exit.)

      Full or empty on gauge.

Near side is allways left. UK

      Gman.
If it aint broke, keep goin' till it is.

Can't argue with the internet. I heard about the nozzle thing years ago (when I was on the tools) and, bar once on an old Triumph, it's worked so far.

I'm happy to listen to arguments about the filler/exhaust thing. What I wrote was hearsay, from many years ago, and backed up with my own personal experience.

But the nearside is the left everywhere, that is not open to argument. If anyone disagrees, they are wrong

As soon as I pressed post I knew that was comming.
I'm 99% sure it was side exit, still searching for info.

              Gman.

It's not the gauge. It's the nozzle on the pump on the gauge.

I once read that there is a little arrow head under the fuel pump symbol, and this points to the side that the filler cap is situated. I know it's correct on the Mondeo (I can't remember which way the nozzle is pointing, must have a look tomorrow).
                      Gone from 4x4 to 1x2

Most excellent. All we need now is another recent(ish) manufacturer to bust this myth completely.

Still leaves the exhaust one open for busting.
