Ok Guys after a cracking week kicked off with Avalanche weekend, i have a thought.
After towing our small caravan with the truck with 35" wheels on to Avalanche then on to Scunthorpe and then home yesterday, Towing with a standard 2.8 with 35's on is painfull. slightest incline and the truck slows to 35/40 MPH.
    OK NOW, How about:
i sell the 35's and get a set of 33's A/T's and get a Turbo onto the truck too??? is this doable and at what cost?

    I'd swap my 33s for your 35s.

The turbo issue is more complicated. Making/modifying the pipework would be easy enough, but you'd probably have to remap the engine... if you have the know how or know someone who can.

Much easier to sell and buy something more suitable to your needs.

Just out of curiosity how is your tow bar mounted? I've a big lift and a home made bracket affair, which is removable so it doesn't interfere when off road. I also have a standard tow bar and a adjustable drop plate that I'd like to use but not sure about how to fabricate bracing that will allow me to remove it and the drop plate.

towbar is bolted to chassis and simple to remove for offroad

        How about you re-gear it.

You need to re-gear the Diffs, so that it goes like 31's on 35's
            It's all about the revs.
I don't know what ratio you have now, but you want at least 4.88's or higher.

If you don't understand why, imagine riding a pushbike along the road, you are in the gear comfortable for the power in your legs.
Now go up a couple of gears, you will find it harder to pedal, more so when you come to a hill.
You are also labouring your engine as it is in the wrong rev band.
Do it right and re-gear it.

I'll look for a better pic. They're BFG ATs 33/12.5/15.

Pops , the articles I have found for your conversion seem to say a vast improvment in overall torque and drivability . I can adjust the pump to compensate for the extra air flow . One article advises a 3" exhaust to help aswell . 35's are far to big for the diff ratio's you have . 33's would be the limit for stock gears trying to pull a tin snail .

I have all the parts except new gaskets to do the job for you and modify the Surf downpipe to fit the pickup centre pipe.

                      sounds good to me Rick.
would it be doable in a weekend?

Not the best pics but you can see what they are...

Only a set of four though, the spare is a 33 but it's an old BFG Mud, I couldn't justify the spend on a fifth new tyre just to hang it off the back of the truck. Funny, the spare is the point that determines my descent angle, it grounds out before anything else.

If you're serious, I can take some close ups, I'd need to see yours too and we'd have to sort out how we would go about doing the swap, I have a tyre machine at work (BS35) or maybe find a tyre fitter between us.

Is that all that is needed, well you learn something new every day. Brilliant.

Small things like a change of filters and exhaust make a bike run like a pig without other mods, even on a truck I was expecting adding a turbo to mess things right up.

Is this the sort of thing you're on about? It's something I'm considering doing if I can do it without spending a fortune.

(Incidentally, those are 8" 5.29:1 for the rear and 7.5" 5.29:1 for the front as would match the sizes for my LN130)

EDIT: Wait for the dollar to drop in value against the pound to get them cheaper given recent financial events!

Its a non EFI engine in the 2.8 so simple system . I have read 3 different articles by Aussie sites that all do the same conversion , I even sent a 'kit' to Aus for a guy to do his . The pump needs a 1/2 to 3/4 turn of fuel to get it about right for the extra air forced in by turbo . You could get the pump re calibrated on a dyno set up but it seems not to get any better results .
