I was only looking for some brakes that'd lock up without me having to push the pedal through the floor and actually use the pedal as friction on the tarmac...

If you can't lock your front wheels then it's not just a different grade of pads you need.

A complete fluid change and new or braided hoses will make a huge difference.

yes fluid needs draining, but I ran out of time when I put the longer braided hoses on, and truthfully, forgot all about it today! was far too pleased that the new brake pads had gone in, and I wasn't left with a truck with no brakes (It's my work vehicle)
Will do the brake fluid change next weekend...
But, first impressions are great, took it out again and little dabs grabbed the front wheels well - I know, shouldn't be locking wheels whilst bedding in... but the difference is massive.

I was thinking about draining the fluid out of my brake system and replacing it with air. I've heard air brake systems are way more efficient. Whether I'll actually get time to completing this or not I'll never know.

From looking at the part diagrams and part numbers, the Land cruiser rear axle should be pretty much a direct fit, - but you'll need the correct master cylinder. – Someone on this forum has done it.
