Yes thanks I have posted a link to this thread so I am not running 2 threads.

Tony.... have you ever swapped a rear pump and put a front pump on? It looks like it will fit but I will need to covert some of the eletric connections....question being is there any fundamental reason it wouldnt work?

Spent all day on the truck I have taken a front pump alternator off my scrapper and all of the fitting brackets hoses and connections. Then i removed the dead rear pump alternator off mine. re jigged everything and it fitted fine.

Problem is the electrics when I put the battery cables on the alternator very quickly heated up and began to smoke.

Any thoughts appreciated as this has been a long day

I've recently done the same on a Pickup, replaced a duff alt with a new one and it did this, obviously there is a wiring fault that caused the original one to burn out (assuming you've wired it right.) I found the fat wires under the air filter box had chaffed and where shorting out to ground. Luckily it didn't kill the new alt for me but didn't blow the fuse as some muppet had moved the alt power wire to 'battery in' side of the glowplug fuse!

I still have the original from my Truck ..... It couldn't be refurbed as the coil windings were "U S", ya very welcome to it if it'll help ya ... Same as the one in the pic (sticker says 7)

Thanks Tony I checked all the wiring the following day and found it wasn't getting a very good positve feed and I had some loose connections
