  • Help broken down

Timing belt warning light and battery light have just come on can I drive it 2 miles home or will it do longer term damage, sounds like a bucket of nails thought it was the altanater ? Any thoughts

Sounds like the bearings have collapsed in the alternator, not sure about driving it though.

    Where are you?

Just had a thought, if you can get the belt off so the alternator won't spin then it should get you home ok.

I think roughtrax do a kit.
A new one is cheap enough.

Did not know the Timing belt warning light is tied in with an Alternator failure

I was unsure on that one as well anyone experienced it?

Definitely the alternator bearings gone I managed another mile but now it wont start as the belt is stopping it turn over. When I stopped the alternator was smoking...!!

Any clues on a rebuild or spare to do so or car factors that may stock one?

Cheers for the responses so far...AA coming to pick it up in the morning to get it to my works where I can work on it if I can source the parts...any help appreciated....was meant to be on a family camp in Wales for my 40th but not looking likley at this rate!! Bugger

You also get a very annoying constant warning tone (like the one where the door is open and it beeps at you but a constant note). Drives me ####ing crazy when it goes off! (Yes, I know my alternator is shagged - I'll charge the batteries when I get home now SHUT THE #### UP!)

Funny missed that as the alternator was clunking so much before it went up in smoke!!!

I've got a 2.4 altenator on the breaker if it's any good to you.
