  • Rear air spoiler

My rear air spoiler is cracked and splitting by the rear light on it. I was thinking of gluing it up temporary in the meantime. Don't sure of any other method to fix it.
Will a spoiler from a 2nd gen fit? I don't have a rear mirror in the spoiler, but if by chance I came across one with the mirror fitted, is it a hard job to connect up the electrics for the mirror.

I've got a 3ltr 96 SSR-G and even though i've got the spoiler it doesn't have the magic mirror. I thought they were meant to be standard fit on the SSR-G, perhaps mine was replaced and in any case i'm not so sure they were much use with the spare in the way.

I've fitted an IR reversing camera and that works brilliant.
    Now it's time to play!

Attached is a picture of the split spoiler. Do you have a link to a website with the camera as that sounds like a good option. Thanks.

Bit of superglue and you'll be sorted for years with that.

Why would any surf have a roof spoiler?

Why not? It makes it look nice plus you have a rear brake light built into the unit. Stops your rear window getting clogged up with dust and dirt.

                Have a look on eBay.

That's where i got mine from and there are loads to choose from, all different prices and many ways to fit them. Mine has a 7" screen so you can see everything clearly without squinting.

I'm going to take mine from where it is in the bumper and place it right on top of the tow bar via a welded on plate with a hole in it for the camera.

Should get a better view there and you can have the camera on all the time if you wish for a view of the road behind you as the camera has quite a wide field of view, or it can come on just when you put it in reverse, and it has an extra video input for an external DVD player.

They are all much of a muchness.
                Now it's time to play!

Regarding the spoiler itself, can any one please tell me if a 2nd Gen one will fit onto a 3rd tailgate? Just missed one on fleabay!

I believe the spoilers are different from 2nd gen ones, if you want to glue yours it's made of "ABS" plastic so the "pipeweld" glue for plastic waste fittings will glue it, long as the breaks are clean and dry, plenty of glue and clamps leave it to throghly dry before removeing the clamps,
Too young to die and too old to give a toss

There is a spoiler for sale on eBay but for a 2nd. I didn't think that there was much of a difference in the body between the 2nd and 3rd gen vehicles. Would prefer to replace the spoiler rather than glue it together as it is also scraped along the side and top.
Can any one definitely say that the 2nd gen spoiler will not fit a 3rd gen?

                          Or if it's a Lexurf.

The main reason is for downforce. I couldn't imagine taking hairpin bends at 130+ without one, it would be risky to say the least.

Without falling off the edge of a cliff my truck doesn't get anywhere near 130 (km/h or mph!)
